According to the current 7th Pay Commission, the salary of Railway Group D employees is based on the Central Government’s Pay Level L-1, which has a basic pay of ₹18,000. However,
after the 8th Pay Commission, a significant increase in the salary of Railway Group D employees is expected. The basic salary for Level-1 is projected to increase from the current ₹18,000 to approximately ₹35,000–₹41,000, based on the final fitment factor, resulting in an expected salary increase of about 30-40%.
These 8th CPC figures are estimates. Until the official notification is released, the Group D salary will remain as per the 7th Pay Commission’s pay matrix (Level-1).
Railway Group D salary in 7th Pay Commission
Railway Group D (RRB Group D) posts fall under Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, with an initial basic salary of ₹18,000, a pay scale of ₹5,200–₹20,200, and a grade pay of ₹1,800. After adding DA, HRA, and TA, the in-hand salary, depending on the posting city and zone, is typically around ₹25,000–₹28,000 per month.
Railway Group D Salary After 8th Pay commission:-
The 8th Pay Commission has been constituted and is expected to be implemented after January 1, 2026. It will be applicable to all central government employees, including railway Group D staff.
While nothing is fixed yet, according to estimates from various experts, the fitment factor will be approximately between 1.92 and 2.35, which will increase the minimum basic salary from ₹18,000 to approximately ₹35,000-₹44,000.

After 5 years of service in the railway Group D category, a Group D employee typically receives an annual increment (currently 3% of the basic pay every year) and two DA hikes per year;
